About the Recipe

Vegan French Toast is a plant-based twist on a classic. It’s quick, comforting, and perfect for a wholesome breakfast without eggs or dairy.

Ingredients

  • ⁠4 slices bread (white, whole wheat, or multigrain)

  • 1/2 cup besan (gram flour)

  • 2 tbsp rice flour (for extra crisp)

  • 1/4 cup yogurt or water (for batter)

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric

  • 1/2 tsp green chili* (finely chopped)

  • Onion chopped

  • ⁠Salt to taste

  • 1/4 cup water (adjust as needed)

  • ⁠2 tbsp oil (for shallow fry or spray)

  • Coriander for garnish (optional)

Preparation

  1. ⁠Make batter: In a bowl, whisk besan, rice flour, turmeric, chili, salt. Add yogurt or water gradually to make a thick, pourable batter (like pancake

  2. Dip & coat: Dip each bread slice in the besan batter, coating both sides evenly.

  3. Cook: Heat a tava or pan, add a drizzle of oil. Place coated bread, drizzle a little more oil on top, and shallow fry 2–3 mins per side on medium heat until golden and crisp.

  4. Serve with chutney, ketchup, or tea
