Now that you’ve got your ASK Masala, it’s time to bring home the flavours of an authentic Mangalorean sambhar. Simple, comforting, and full of taste — here’s how you can make it at home.

Authentic Mangalorean Sambhar

  • Onion (optional)

  • 2 tbsp ASK Masala

  • ½ cup grated coconut

  • Lemon-sized tamarind

  • ½ tsp jaggery

  • Salt to taste

For the Tadka

  • Rai (mustard seeds)

  • Jeera (cumin seeds)

  • Hing

  • Curry leaves

Method

  1. In a mixer grinder, add grated coconut, tamarind, ASK Masala, jaggery, and salt. Grind into a fine paste.

  2. In a pressure cooker, add the mixed vegetables, the ground masala paste, and 1 cup of water.

  3. Pressure cook for 2 whistles.

  4. Once cooled, prepare the tadka with rai, jeera, hing, and curry leaves, then pour it over the sambhar.

  5. Mix well and serve hot with rice or dosa.

If you enjoy garlic, you can also add chopped garlic to the tadka for extra flavour.
